Lumira Pediatrics is a pediatric functional medicine practice, led by Rosario, a double board-certified pediatrician who spent years caring for some of the sickest, most complex children in the hospital. Functional medicine, in its original sense, means treating the child in front of me as an individual — their biology, their history, their gut and immune system — and understanding why a pattern exists before deciding what to do about it. Physiology first. No protocols applied blindly. It’s the same reasoning those hard hospital cases demanded, brought to the everyday problems that never quite get solved.

My own child’s journey through eczema and cow’s milk protein allergy is what sent me back to the deeper questions. I had the training — years in pediatric hospital medicine, reasoning through the most complex cases — but I found myself applying it differently, looking at the whole child instead of one symptom at a time.
That’s the medicine I practice now: rigorous, curious, and rooted in physiology. Not wellness trends — real pediatrics, done thoroughly, for families who sense there’s more to the story.
