Care that asks why the symptoms keep coming back.
Root-cause pediatric care is a deeper, more patient way of practicing medicine. Instead of treating each flare on its own, we look for the pattern underneath — and build a plan around your child, not a protocol.
For children with recurring concerns that keep returning despite the usual treatments. Telemedicine throughout Florida, with in-person visits for local families.
Functional medicine, the way it was meant to be.
“Functional medicine” has picked up a lot of noise — these days it can mean anything from a supplement subscription to a lab panel with no plan behind it. That isn’t what I practice.
In its original sense, functional medicine simply means treating your child as an individual: looking at how the gut, immune system, skin, airway, nutrition, sleep, and environment connect, and understanding why a pattern exists before deciding what to do about it. Physiology first. Evidence where we have it. No protocols applied blindly.
It’s the same way I was trained to reason through the most complex cases in pediatric hospital medicine — brought to the everyday problems that never quite get solved.
Framework, toolbox, foundation.
Functional medicine is the framework. Integrative care is the toolbox. Pediatrics is the foundation.
The framework
We look at how the gut, immune system, skin barrier, airway, nutrition, sleep, environment, and your child’s history may all be connected — not one symptom at a time.
The toolbox
The plan may include nutrition, lifestyle changes, targeted supplements, conventional medication when it’s warranted, testing, and referrals — whatever actually fits your child.
The foundation
This isn’t about rejecting modern medicine or stopping treatments abruptly. It’s a board-certified pediatrician using clinical judgment, asking better questions, and choosing the right tools.
One way of thinking, across many concerns.
The root-cause approach isn’t specific to one diagnosis — it’s a way of working that fits a range of recurring pediatric patterns. Pick the area closest to your child to see how it looks in practice.

Start with a conversation. Then we go deep.
Every family follows the same path: a short intake form and a free discovery call, then the comprehensive root-cause visit where the real work happens, then follow-ups that keep the plan moving as your child responds.
Discovery Call
You complete a short intake form first. Then a brief, no-pressure call to hear your main concern, make sure we’re the right fit, and point you toward the right next step.
- Short intake form beforehand
- A quick fit conversation
- A clear sense of next steps
- No obligation to continue
Root-Cause Visit
Before we meet, I review your child’s full history in advance. Together we go through the timeline, previous treatments, nutrition, sleep, digestion, and environment — and build a personalized, physiology-based plan.
- Full history reviewed in advance
- Deep pattern and treatment review
- Personalized care pathway
- Clear, actionable next steps
Follow-Up Visits
Most children need two to four follow-ups over three to six months. These let us see what’s helping, address what still needs attention, and adjust the plan as your child responds.
- Review response to the plan
- Refine what’s working
- Address what’s still unsettled
- Adjust as your child grows
Ways to work together.
Most families choose a program — the same visits, at a lower price, paid over time. Or pay as you go, one visit at a time. Whichever you choose, we start with the free discovery call.

Lumira Pediatrics is a direct-pay, out-of-network practice. I don’t contract with insurance plans, which is what makes the unhurried, deeply personalized visits possible. Superbills can be provided for possible reimbursement, and HSA and FSA cards are welcome.
Laboratory testing, supplements, medications, imaging, and outside specialist services are billed separately unless specifically stated.
Do I have to leave our pediatrician?
No. Root-cause care is designed to work alongside your child’s regular pediatrician. They continue with routine primary care — well visits, vaccines, sick visits, forms, and urgent needs — while I take on the specific concern that needs more time and a deeper look.
Think of it as an added layer of investigation, not a replacement. Many families come to me for a single stubborn issue and keep everything else exactly where it is.
You don’t need to have the whole pattern figured out.
Tell me what’s been happening, what your child has already tried, and what you hope will be different. We’ll start there. The discovery call is free, and telemedicine is available throughout Florida.
