Pediatric Functional Medicine in Central Florida
For children whose eczema, stomach troubles, allergies, or behavior keep coming back, even after the usual treatments.
I am Dr. Irissa Rosario, a pediatrician who spent twelve years caring for some of the most complex children in the hospital. Now I bring that same careful thinking to the problems that never quite get solved. I use conventional and functional medicine together, so your child gets the best of both, with telemedicine available anywhere in Florida.
A different question: why is this happening?
Functional medicine is a physiology-based approach to illness. Instead of matching a symptom to a treatment, it asks how and why the illness developed. That means looking at what set things in motion, what keeps them going, and how the body’s systems are affecting one another.
In children, those connections are often between the gut, the immune system, the skin, the nervous system, and nutrition. Testing is targeted, and treatment may include nutrition, supplements, or conventional medication when it is the right tool.
Root cause rarely means finding one single cause. More often it means bringing many symptoms, supplements, and specialist visits back to the one or two things that have actually gone wrong, and treating those.
Families usually come to me when:
From first call to a plan that holds.
Clarity call
A brief, free call to understand your main concern, explain how I work, and decide together whether my practice is the right fit.
Comprehensive visit
Once you enroll, I review your child’s records in advance. In our first visit, we go through the full history and begin the plan.
Testing
When testing is useful, I order only what will change the plan. We review the results together in a scheduled visit.
Treatment and follow-up
We adjust the plan as your child responds, with visits scheduled as the plan needs them.
What the clarity call is, and what it is not
The clarity call is a conversation about fit, not a medical consultation. It does not include record review, diagnosis, medical advice, or a plan of care. Those begin once your child is enrolled in a care program, so that I can give your child’s case the time it deserves.
Two programs, based on what your child needs.
All care is provided through a program. The length depends on the type of concern, because some conditions respond within a few months and others need more time to change.
Medical Program
For physical health concerns of the skin, gut, airway, and immune system.
Such as
Behavioral and Mind-Body Program
For concerns involving the brain and nervous system, which usually need more time and closer follow-up.
Such as
Every program includes
- Record review before your first visit
- Comprehensive initial visit
- Lab review visit
- Follow-up visits as your child’s plan needs them
- A written care plan
- Lab ordering and interpretation
- Secure portal messaging during business hours
- Coordination with your child’s pediatrician and specialists
Program fees are reviewed during your clarity call. At the end of the program, we decide together whether to continue or return care to your pediatrician.
Why I am out of network.
Lumira Pediatrics is out of network with all insurance plans. Insurance is built around short visits and single problems. The care I provide requires long visits, record review, careful thought between visits, and coordination with other doctors, none of which insurance is designed to pay for.
Working outside of insurance allows me to spend the time your child’s case actually needs and to make decisions based on your child, not on what a plan will approve.
Superbills. I can provide a superbill, an itemized receipt you can submit to your insurance for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement depends on your plan and is not guaranteed. HSA and FSA cards are welcome.
Labs. Laboratory testing is billed directly by the lab at their cost and is never marked up by my practice. Many standard labs can be run through your insurance instead. Labs, supplements, medications, and imaging are not included in the program.
Do we have to leave our pediatrician?
No. My care programs work alongside your child’s pediatrician, who continues with well visits, vaccines, sick visits, forms, and urgent needs. I focus on the specific concern that needs more time and a deeper look.
